Atalanta United fix the final berth against New York Red Bulls

Atalanta United ran over New York City 4-1 winner over the course of 2 legs, and made sure Tata Martino stayed around for a few more weeks. Josef Martinez scored 2 and continued his fabulous form for the Atalanta United. Atalanta United is a fairly new entrant to the Conference Cup, and in their short 2-year history the semi-final drew 70,526 fans for the game. Martino who has the experience of leading Barcelona and Argentina had announced previously that he would be leaving the franchisee after the season ends, was given a fitting tribute by the fans who showered heaps of praise for the coach.

Martino had a rather unsuccessful stint with Barcelona, but he has revived Atalanta from the brink of obscurity and they play one of the aesthetically pleasing football these days. It is reported that Martino may be the next head coach of Mexico National Team, although he is expected to see Atalanta through the playoffs.

Michael Parkhurst, captain of the team deems that a title win would be the best farewell gift for the departing coach and expressed his gratitude for the work Martino has done for them for the past 2 years. He admitted that Martino’s departure is an extra motivating factor, and Tata’s bid to constantly push his players have upped their playing style.

New York Red Bulls scored thrice to overturn a one-goal deficit against Columbus Crew, and registered themselves into the finals of the Conference Cup. Gyasi Zardes’ goal in the first leg was cancelled by Alex Muyl in the 17th minute, and then Royer scored twice in the 73rd and 76th minute to add to his 11 goals tally. Columbus Crew have had few coach troubles in the past few years andtalks of Berhalter to head the Crews after interim coach Dave Sarachan took over at the helms temporarily. The Red Bulls on the other hand will have a chance to script history as they have remained trophy less for the past 23 seasons, and they are already on red hot form after registering 71 points in the MLS-season for the first time. Josef Martinez will be the key to Atalanta’s hopes if they are to snatch the win under Martino while Red Bulls have performed expertly since the start of the season as a team.
