Portland Timbers remain unbeaten in their last six games as they defeated visitors Seattle Sounders. Diego Valeri gave Portland the lead just before halftime as he scored in the forty-fourth minute. No sooner had the second half started, up popped Valeri again as he doubled Portland’s lead scoring in the fiftieth minute of the game. This appeared to wake up Seattle Sounders and they got themselves on the score sheet courtesy of Chad Marshall as he hit home in the fifty-ninth minute. However, five minutes later Portland increased their lead again, this time through Fanendo Adi as he scored the final goal of the game in the sixty-fourth minute. Portland now faces LA Galaxy, a team the drew with 1-1 the last time they met.
LA Galaxy made hard work of what should have been an ordinary day in the office. Robbie Keane missed a Penalty kick in the seventh minute as David Horst was called for handling the ball inside the penalty area and later in the first half missed a golden opportunity in front of goal. The first half ended goallessly, and LA Galaxy was wondering how they would get the goal they desperately needed. The second half was underway, and Steven Gerrard was the key to unlocking the door as he hit home in the sixty-sixth minute to give LA the goal they were searching for and as it turned out, the goal to win the game. LA are now unbeaten in five games and will be heading into this fixture confident, but well aware the Portland are also on a run of good form.
Portland Timbers is missing Adam Kwarasey (torn ligament in finger), Darren Mattocks (hamstring injury) and Diego Valeri (ankle injury). Alvas Powell has four Yellow cards to his name.
LA Galaxy is without Robbie Rogers (ankle surgery), Ashley Cole (hamstring injury) and possibly Ariel Lassiter. Nigel de Jong is suspended, and Daniel Steres has four Yellow cards to his name.
A tough one to call, both teams are playing well and in good shape, but if anyone is likely to win this, then you have to lean towards LA Galaxy with three wins from three games.
