West Ham are currently in the US preparing for the new season. They had their first game last night as they faced Seattle Sounders. It was not the start they would have been looking for as they got mashed 3-0.
It was a quiet first half, but a few minutes from half-time, a Seattle player got brought down which saw the referee point to the spot. It was a calm finish from Herculez Gomez, giving the home team the lead at the break.
West Ham had some chance sin the second half after making a massive ten changes, but were unable to convert. Seattle Sounders took advantage of their missed chances, scoring two goals within two minutes. Both of these goals came from James Morris, which would have filled him with confidence for the rest of the MLS season.
Seattle Sounders currently sit 9th in the table of 10 teams in the MLS, but this win over was a good Premier League side might push them on for the rest of the campaign.
As mentioned, West Ham made ten changes at half-time. Here was the West Ham United team in the two halves.
1st half – Adrian, Byram, Reid, Rice, Page, Makasi, Noble, Poyet, Samuelsen, Brown & Carroll.
2nd half – Spiegel, Makasi, Burke, Henry, Cresswell, Nordtveit, Feghouli, Lanzini, Obiang, Quina & Martinez.
After the game, manager Slaven Bilic said the most important thing was that no one was injured, and that they can go into their next game injury free.
West Ham will next be in action on Wednesday the 13th of July as they travel to Carolina RailHawks for a 01:00 kick off. They will then play their final friendly match back at their brand new stadium, against European giants, Juventus. That game in on their 7th of August at 13:00.
