Top-selling MLS Shirts for 2018

MLS is growing as a sport in USA and gone are those days when the game was played at a slow pace and no expectations were there. However, the entry of David Beckham and several footballers at their prime has catapulted MLS into the limelight. Shirt sales are now competing with their European counterpart.

Zlatan Ibrahimovich

When Zlatan arrived at MLS from his stint at Manchester United, there was not an ounce of doubt the hype and following he was bringing to MLS. Zlatan has not disappointed his fans and his debut was nothing short of a dream. However, it was not only Zlatan’s on-field personality that helped the MLS, but LA Galaxy made some heavy shirt sales as well. His shirts sales have exceeded others. The forward has scored 22 times in 26 outings already.

Carlos Vela

The Mexican was always tipped to be a sight to behold, and his abilities were at full display when Mexico played exciting football at World Cup 2018. He was one of the best players for Mexico, and his switch to Los Angeles FC was after an impressive few seasons at Real Sociedad where he grew into a player. Vela is predominantly left footed and his calm demeanour on the ball reflects Messi’s playing style. His switch to MLS has seen him reach the top within few matches as he has scored 10 times and assisted 13 more in a short span.

Josef Martinez

Martinez is a relatively new name in the soccer arena, but the striker has racked up 33 goals for Atalanta in the calendar year. The Venezuelan isn’t your typical South American striker and uses his brute force and low centre of gravity. Josef is extremely pacey and has been a bright patch for Atalanta now. He is currently third on the list of shirt sellers.

Wayne Rooney

Rooney has won almost everything in his life, although individual honours have eluded him, Wayne Rooney of Manchester United is considered a legend, and even after his departure from Premier League didn’t deter his fans to follow him to MLS. In one of the matches, Wayne Rooney went full Maldini to Pirlo in 20 seconds where he tackled a player in midway line after scratching across the distance and then delivered a peach of a cross that was headed goalwards.

He also scored a superb freekick recently and has hit the zenith already. He is currently the 4th in terms of shirt sellers.

Miguel Almiron

Paraguayan midfielder Miguel Almiron is a lanky yet stylish footballer who is described as the heartbeat of the Atalanta team by fellow teammate Jeff Larentowicz. Miguel is an attack minded midfielder although he relinquishes the ball rarely. He has already made his senior debut with Paraguay and finding his feet in the International Arena. Miguel makes it to the top 5 in terms of shirt sellers.
