U.S Under-20s looks to continue their 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup adventure

United States U20 squad managed to top their World Cup group F with five points under their belts after three group fixtures. They kicked off the group campaign with an entertaining 3-3 draw against Ecuador U20, but managed to get their first victory in the second round, winning 1-0 over Senegal U20. The Star and Stripes were held to a 1-1 draw by Saudi Arabia in their final group fixture, but with Senegal also drawing against Ecuador, it was good enough to top the group. They have now qualified for the round of 16th where they will face New Zealand U20 on Thursday.

U-20 World Cup history

This is U.S. Under 20s’ 15th appearances at a U-20 World Cup and 9th in the last ten cycles. Their best performance came when they finished 4th at the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia. In addition, the Star and Stripes managed to reach the quarter-finals of the competition in four occasions, most recently in 2015.

A player to watch

A player to watch here is Josh Sargent, as the 17-year-old has reportedly agreed to a deal with the German side Werder Bremen. He is the member of the current U.S. Under-20 team and he already managed to score three goals in his three group appearances.
